Epistle to the priests and deacons in Alexandria and Mareotis

·202 words·1 min

1 Alexander, addressing the priests and deacons of Alexandria and Mareotis, currently assembled, sends warm greetings.

2 While you have eagerly endorsed the letters I dispatched to those associated with Arius, urging them to renounce their impious beliefs and embrace the wholesome, Catholic faith, thereby demonstrating your steadfast adherence to orthodox principles and unity with the teachings of the Catholic Church, I have also corresponded with all our fellow ministers across various locations regarding the issues concerning Arius and his followers. I have deemed it necessary to convene you, the clergy of the city, and to also summon those of Mareotis. This is particularly important since among your ranks, Chares and Pistus, the priests, as well as Sarapion, Parammon, Zosimus, and Irenaeus, the deacons, have aligned themselves with the faction of Arius, choosing to be deposed alongside them. It is essential that you are informed about what has been written, and that you express your agreement on these matters, lending your support for the deposition of those associated with Arius and Pistus. It is right that you are acquainted with the content of my letters, and that each of you holds them in your heart as if you had written them yourselves.
