Abercius

Abercius was a second-century bishop of Hierapolis in Phrygia, remembered above all for the verse epitaph he composed for his own tomb, rediscovered in the nineteenth century. The inscription - one of the oldest Christian monuments in the world - speaks of faith, baptism, the Eucharist and his journey to Rome in a pure symbolic language.
