Ambrosiaster

Ambrosiaster is the name given by scholars to the unknown author of the earliest complete Latin commentary on the epistles of Paul, written at Rome in the later fourth century. His work, long read under the names of Ambrose and Augustine, is a principal witness to the Latin church’s teaching before Jerome’s Vulgate.
