Adomnán’s Angel is the unnamed messenger said, in the Irish tradition surrounding the ninth abbot of Iona, to have dictated the Law of Adomnán (Cáin Adomnáin), the seventh-century decree protecting women, children and clergy in war. The figure represents the divine authority claimed for that early Irish law of sanctuary.
