Arethas of Caesarea

Arethas of Caesarea was a tenth-century archbishop of Caesarea in Cappadocia, a learned scholar and bibliophile whose marginal notes preserve priceless testimony to the Greek classics. His commentary on the Apocalypse and his annotations on Plato and the early Christian apologists made him a link between late antiquity and the Byzantine renaissance.
