Besa the Copt
Besa the Copt was a fifth-century Egyptian monk, disciple and successor of Shenoute as abbot of the White Monastery. His Coptic letters and sermons continued the austere tradition of Egypt’s greatest monastic legislator and preserve the voice of native Egyptian Christianity in the generation after Chalcedon.
