Clerk of Salzburg

The Clerk of Salzburg is the anonymous author of the Lives and Miracles of the Saints of Salzburg, composed after the rediscovery of Saint Virgil’s tomb in 1181. A self-described eyewitness, he recorded the lives of Virgil and his successors Hartwich and Eberhard and the miracles that drew crowds of pilgrims to Salzburg.
