Gall

Gall was an Irish monk and one of the twelve companions of Columbanus, who remained behind in the Alamannic lands when his master passed into Italy. From his hermit’s cell in the Steinach valley near Lake Constance he preached to the surrounding country; the community that grew around his tomb became the abbey of St Gallen, and the sermon he preached at the consecration of Bishop John of Constance survives.
