Hilary of Arles

Hilary of Arles was a fifth-century monk of Lérins who became bishop of Arles and the leading churchman of southern Gaul. His Life of Saint Honoratus, his sermons and his stormy disputes with Pope Leo over the rights of his see made him the most charismatic - and most contested - Gallic bishop of his generation.
