Jacob of Edessa

Jacob of Edessa was a seventh- and eighth-century Syriac scholar, bishop of Edessa and the greatest polymath of the West Syrian church. His revision of the Syriac Old Testament, his chronicle, his grammar and his canon law made him the heir of Severus and the father of Syriac philology.
