Lanfranc of Canterbury

Lanfranc of Canterbury was an Italian lawyer who became a monk of Bec, then abbot of Caen and finally archbishop of Canterbury under William the Conqueror. His controversy with Berengarius on the Eucharist and his reordering of the English church after the Conquest made him the architect of Norman ecclesiastical England.
