Lateran Council (649AD)

The Lateran Council of 649 was the synod Pope Martin I convoked in the Lateran basilica to condemn monothelitism without imperial permission. Its canons on the two wills and two energies of Christ were the boldest assertion of Roman doctrinal independence, and both Martin and his theologian Maximus died for them.
