Monk of Rheinau

The Monk of Rheinau is the anonymous author of the Life of Saint Findan (Fintan), the Irish pilgrim sold into slavery in the Orkneys who escaped to become a recluse at Rheinau in Switzerland. Written in the ninth century, it is a remarkable record of Viking slave-taking and of the Irish wanderers of the Carolingian age.
