Patrick
Patrick was a fifth-century Briton who, having been carried to Ireland as a slave in his youth, returned there as bishop and apostle to the Irish. The historical saint of the Irish mission must be distinguished from the later national legend: he is the figure honoured for planting the Church among the northern Irish kingdoms.
