Peter of Cambrai was a regular canon of the chapter of Saint-Aubert in Cambrai who wrote, between 1238 and 1248, the Life and the Miracles of Saint Dymphna — the Irish virgin martyred at Geel by her own father’s hand, whose shrine became the great pilgrimage for the afflicted in mind. He records that he was the first to commit her legend to writing.
