Photios the Great

Photios the Great was a ninth-century Byzantine scholar and patriarch of Constantinople, the most learned man of his age. His Bibliotheca summarised nearly four hundred lost books, his Amphilochia answered his nephew’s questions, and his stand against the filioque and his mission to the Slavs made him the central figure of the Byzantine renaissance.
