Pierre Cauchon

Pierre Cauchon was a French bishop, canon lawyer and political figure, best known for presiding over Joan of Arc’s Trial of Condemnation at Rouen in 1431. His close ties to the Anglo-Burgundian cause during the Hundred Years’ War, combined with the central role he played in the proceedings that led to Joan’s execution, made him one of the most controversial churchmen in fifteenth-century France.
