Pseudo-Macarius is the name given to the anonymous author of the Fifty Spiritual Homilies, the collection long read under the name of Macarius of Egypt. Probably a Syrian monk of the fourth or fifth century, he gave the church its most loved teaching on the indwelling of the Spirit and the soul’s inner warfare.
