School of Laon

The School of Laon is the name given to the anonymous masters and pupils of the cathedral school of Laon in the early twelfth century, whose glosses on Scripture and the Sentences shaped the first age of scholasticism. The corpus gathered under the name preserves the teaching tradition that produced the Glossa Ordinaria and the fathers of systematic theology.
