Sedulius Scottus was an Irish scholar who made his home at Liège in the mid ninth century, where he was patronised by bishop Hartgar. He wrote the Collectaneum on the epistles of Paul, the political treatise On Christian Rulers addressed to King Lothair, and a body of verse that made him the most considerable Irish Latin poet of the Carolingian age.
