Symeon the New Theologian
Symeon the New Theologian was a tenth- and eleventh-century Byzantine monk, abbot of Saint Mamas in Constantinople and the boldest mystical writer of the Eastern church. His hymns of divine love, his catecheses and his teaching that the experience of God is possible for every Christian made him the first to bear the title ‘New Theologian’ since Gregory of Nazianzus.
