Theophilus of Alexandria

Theophilus of Alexandria was patriarch of Alexandria from 385 to 412, uncle and predecessor of Cyril and the force behind the destruction of the Serapeum. A relentless controversialist who engineered the condemnation of Origen’s memory and the fall of John Chrysostom, his letters and festal treatises nonetheless taught the orthodox doctrine he defended.
