Hymn of Saint Camelacus

·110 words·1 min

1 Hear the good example
of the blessed poor man,
Camelacus of Cuma,
the servant of the righteous God.

2 In everything he gives an example,
faithful in his deeds,
giving thanks to God,
cheerful in all things.

3 Fasting and gentle,
chaste, he serves God here;
he rejoices in poverty,
and is meek in all things.

4 By night and by day
he prays to his Lord;
prudent, righteous, and faithful,
beloved by his kindred.

5 He beheld the Lord, the King,
and his Saviour;
He bestowed upon him eternal
life with the faithful.

6 Christ brought him
to the patriarch Abraham;
in Paradise he reigned
with Saint Lazarus.
