Terms and Conditions

Effective date: 24 July 2026

These Terms and Conditions govern your access to and use of Catholica, including the Catholica website, iOS application, Android application and related services (together, the "Service").

The Service is provided by Catholica Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales under company number 16096313 ("Catholica", "we", "us" or "our").

By accessing or using the Service, creating an account or otherwise indicating your agreement, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, you must not use the Service.

1. The Service

Catholica is a digital Catholic companion offering features that may include prayer experiences, prayer intentions and private prayer connections, private or moderated public reflections, Bible reading and commentary, spiritual routines and reminders, audio playback and downloads, parish-related information, personalisation and account management.

Features may differ between the website, iOS application and Android application, and may depend on your location, language, device, account status, connectivity or app version.

Catholica is operated by Catholica Ltd. A reference to a parish, diocese, member of the clergy, religious organisation, author or other third party does not by itself mean that they sponsor or endorse Catholica.

2. Eligibility and responsibility for minors

You may use the Service only if you can lawfully enter into these Terms. If you are not old enough to enter into these Terms in your country, a parent or legal guardian must review and agree to them on your behalf and supervise your use of the Service.

A parent or guardian who permits a minor to use the Service is responsible for that minor's use, subject to applicable law.

3. Accounts and sign-in

Some features require an account. You must provide accurate information, keep it reasonably up to date and use only an account that you are authorised to use.

You are responsible for activity through your account except to the extent it results from Catholica's failure to use reasonable care. Keep your password and devices secure and tell us promptly at legal@catholica.com if you believe your account has been accessed without permission.

You may sign in using an email address or a supported third-party provider. Your use of a third-party sign-in provider is also subject to that provider's terms, and Catholica does not control the provider's service.

  • Do not create an account for another person without their permission.
  • Do not sell, transfer or commercially share your account.
  • Do not attempt to bypass account, security or access controls.

4. Your content, prayer intentions, reflections and sharing

You retain any rights you have in prayer intentions, reflections, profile details, images, routine information and other content that you submit or create through the Service ("Your Content").

You grant Catholica a non-exclusive, worldwide and royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, process, technically adapt, transmit, moderate and display Your Content only as reasonably needed to operate, secure and maintain the Service, provide the features you request, apply your visibility and sharing choices, and comply with law. This licence ends when Your Content is deleted, except where limited retention is reasonably required for backups, security, legal obligations or resolving disputes.

Some features may let you share Your Content with prayer connections, selected users or the public. Public reflections may be reviewed before publication. Recipients may save, copy or disclose what you share, so do not share confidential information or another person's personal, health, religious or other sensitive information unless you have their permission and it is lawful to do so.

You are responsible for Your Content and must have all rights and permissions needed to submit and share it.

5. Acceptable use

You must use the Service lawfully, respectfully and only for personal, non-commercial purposes unless Catholica gives you written permission for another use.

  • Do not use the Service to commit, encourage or facilitate unlawful activity, fraud, scams, terrorism, exploitation or abuse.
  • Do not create, upload, request, share or promote child sexual abuse material, sexual exploitation, grooming or content that endangers a child.
  • Do not threaten, harass, stalk, bully, deceive or harm another person, publish private information without lawful authority, or encourage suicide or serious self-harm.
  • Do not submit or share hateful, defamatory, abusive, sexually explicit, obscene, deceptive or rights-infringing content.
  • Do not impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity, authority or affiliation.
  • Do not introduce malware, disrupt the Service, probe for vulnerabilities, evade security controls or access data or accounts without authorisation.
  • Do not scrape, harvest, reverse engineer, copy, republish, sell or commercially exploit the Service or use automated access that unreasonably burdens or bypasses it, except where applicable law expressly permits this or Catholica gives written permission.

6. Safety, moderation, reporting and appeals

We use proportionate safety and moderation measures that may include user reports, human review, technical filters and automated tools where appropriate. Public reflections may be reviewed before they are made public. We do not promise to monitor every item of content or interaction.

Where we reasonably believe content or conduct is unlawful, breaches these Terms, infringes rights or creates a safety or security risk, we may reject or remove content, limit its visibility, disable sharing or interaction features, warn a user, end a prayer connection, suspend or terminate an account, preserve relevant information, or report a matter to a competent authority where permitted or required by law. We aim to act consistently and proportionately.

You can report content, conduct, an account or a safety concern using any reporting tool made available in the Service or by emailing legal@catholica.com with enough information for us to assess the issue. If someone is in immediate danger, contact the emergency services or an appropriate crisis service where they are located.

You may ask us to review a moderation, suspension or termination decision by emailing legal@catholica.com. Where required by law, we will provide reasons and handle eligible complaints in a timely, fair and non-arbitrary way. You may also end a prayer connection or use any blocking or safety controls made available in the Service.

7. Religious, wellbeing and informational content

The Service is intended to support prayer, learning and personal spiritual routines. It does not provide sacraments, pastoral care, spiritual direction or professional medical, mental-health, legal, financial or other advice, and it is not a substitute for an appropriate priest, qualified professional or emergency service.

If you or another person may be in immediate danger, contact the emergency services or an appropriate crisis service where you are located rather than relying on Catholica.

Bible texts, prayers, commentaries, biographies, feast dates, parish details, translations and other information may contain errors, reflect particular sources or traditions, or become out of date. You should verify information that is important to a decision with an appropriate trusted source.

Catholica does not guarantee any particular spiritual, personal, health or other outcome from using the Service.

8. Licence and intellectual property

Subject to these Terms, Catholica gives you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to access and use the Service on devices you own or control for the duration of your permitted use.

Catholica and its licensors own the Service, including its software, branding, design and original content. Except for the limited licence above, these Terms do not transfer any intellectual property rights to you.

Bible translations, prayers, commentaries, audio, artwork, names, quotations and other materials may be owned or licensed by third parties and may be subject to additional notices or restrictions. You must not remove copyright, trade mark or attribution notices.

9. Audio, downloads and device use

The mobile applications may allow certain audio to be downloaded for offline personal use. Downloads are licensed, not sold, and may be played only through permitted Catholica features unless the applicable rights holder allows otherwise.

Downloaded content may become unavailable or require replacement when content, rights, security requirements or the Service change. Removing the application, clearing application data, signing out, changing devices or ending your account may remove local downloads.

You are responsible for your device, storage space, internet connection and any data or carrier charges. You should use download settings appropriate for your connection and data plan.

10. Notifications and communications

If you enable notifications, Catholica may send routine reminders, prayed-for alerts, service messages or other notifications connected with features you choose. Delivery and timing are not guaranteed and may depend on your device, operating system, network and notification settings.

You can change notification permissions through the Service or your device settings. We may still send essential account, security, service or legal communications where permitted by law.

Essential communications may be provided electronically, including by email, in-app notice or publication through the Service, without affecting any right you have to receive information in another form under applicable law.

11. Third-party services and links

The Service may rely on or link to third-party services such as identity providers, app stores, hosting, email, notifications, monitoring, maps, media delivery or external websites.

Third-party services are governed by their own terms and privacy policies. You must comply with applicable third-party terms when using the Service. Catholica is not responsible for a third-party service merely because it is accessible through or used by the Service, but this does not limit any responsibility Catholica has under applicable law for its own acts or omissions.

12. Privacy

Our Privacy Policy explains how Catholica collects, uses, stores and shares personal information, including information that may reveal religious beliefs. Please read it before using the Service.

When you share information with other users, those users may process it independently of Catholica. Choose carefully what you share and with whom.

13. Availability, updates and changes to the Service

We aim to provide the Service with reasonable care and skill, but we do not promise that every feature will always be available, uninterrupted, secure or error-free.

We may update, add, limit, suspend or withdraw features for legitimate reasons such as security, safety, maintenance, legal or licensing requirements, technical changes, preventing misuse or improving the Service. Where a change materially disadvantages users, we will give reasonable notice when practicable.

You may need to install updates to continue using the mobile applications safely or to access certain features. Older versions may stop working where reasonably necessary for security, compatibility or support.

14. Suspension, termination and account deletion

You may stop using the Service at any time. You may request deletion of your account using any account-deletion route made available in the Service or on our website, or by contacting legal@catholica.com. Deleting an application or ending an account with a sign-in provider does not by itself delete your Catholica account.

We may suspend or end access where we reasonably believe you have seriously or repeatedly breached these Terms, created a risk to users or the Service, infringed rights, used the Service unlawfully, or where action is required by law. Where appropriate, we will give notice and a reasonable opportunity to correct the issue, but we may act without advance notice to address an urgent safety, security or legal risk.

We may discontinue all or part of the Service for a legitimate business, legal or technical reason. Where practicable, we will give reasonable notice.

Provisions that by their nature should continue after your use ends, including provisions about intellectual property, liability, disputes and retained data, will continue to apply.

15. Consumer rights and liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited, including mandatory consumer rights.

Catholica is responsible for loss or damage that is a foreseeable result of our breach of these Terms or failure to use reasonable care and skill. We are not responsible for loss or damage that was not foreseeable when you agreed to these Terms.

We do not exclude or limit liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

The Service is supplied for personal and domestic use. If you use it for a commercial or business purpose, we are not responsible for loss of profit, loss of business, business interruption or loss of business opportunity, except where applicable law does not allow that exclusion.

We are not responsible for delay or failure caused by circumstances outside our reasonable control, but we will take reasonable steps to reduce the effect of such circumstances.

16. Apple App Store and Google Play

If you download a Catholica application from the Apple App Store or Google Play, you must also comply with the applicable store rules. These Terms are between you and Catholica, not Apple, Google or another store operator. Catholica, not the store operator, is responsible for the application and its content.

For an application obtained through Apple's App Store, your licence is non-transferable and limited to use on Apple-branded products that you own or control as permitted by Apple's usage rules, including Family Sharing or volume purchasing where those rules allow.

Catholica is responsible for maintenance, support, applicable warranties and claims relating to the application, including product-liability, regulatory, consumer-protection, privacy and intellectual-property claims. Apple and Google have no obligation to provide maintenance or support. If an Apple application fails to conform to an applicable warranty, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund any purchase price paid for that application; to the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation.

You must comply with applicable third-party terms when using the application. For an Apple application, you also represent that you are not in a country subject to a United States Government embargo or designated as supporting terrorism, and are not on a United States Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these Terms for an application obtained through Apple's App Store and may enforce the provisions that apply for their benefit.

17. Governing law and disputes

Please contact legal@catholica.com first so that we can try to resolve any concern.

These Terms and any non-contractual dispute arising from them are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If you are a consumer living elsewhere, you also retain any mandatory protections given to you by the law of your country of residence.

The courts of England and Wales have non-exclusive jurisdiction. This does not prevent a consumer from bringing a claim in another court where applicable consumer law gives them that right.

18. Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms to reflect changes to the Service, our operations, legal or regulatory requirements, security or safety needs, or third-party obligations.

The latest version will be published through the Service with a revised effective date. If a change materially affects your rights or obligations, we will provide reasonable advance notice where practicable and may ask you to accept the updated Terms.

Changes will not apply retroactively unless required by law. If you do not agree to an updated version, you may stop using the Service and request account deletion before the updated Terms take effect.

19. Language and general terms

We may provide these Terms in more than one language and may present a version matching the website or application variant you use. Translations are intended to have the same meaning. If there is a conflict or ambiguity, the English version will be used to interpret the Terms except where applicable law requires otherwise.

If any part of these Terms is found unlawful or unenforceable, the remaining parts will continue to apply. A delay in enforcing these Terms does not waive the right to enforce them later.

You may not transfer your rights or obligations under these Terms without our written permission. We may transfer ours as part of a reorganisation, merger, acquisition or transfer of the Service, provided this does not reduce your rights.

Except for Apple and its subsidiaries as described in section 16, a person who is not a party to these Terms has no right to enforce them.

These Terms, together with any additional terms expressly presented for a particular feature, form the agreement between you and Catholica concerning the Service.
